Motorpool Mobile Apps & Web-based System
Design and Build of Mobile Apps and Web-based System for Transportation
Brief
Working with a London-based multinational sports marketing agency, we led the development of two mobile apps and a web-based system. The mobile apps and system were needed to manage the private transportation of corporate guests and staff attending large sports events, such as the Rugby World Cup and Tokyo 2020. Working in an agile manner, we needed to work with key stakeholders to elicit requirements, then propose and implement solutions.

Solution
Early in the project we produced a brand identity and visual designs for key screens. We developed two mobile apps, using the Microsoft Xamarin platform. One app was used by people requesting a vehicle and the other app was used by drivers. GPS was utilised to report vehicle positions and push notifications were used to provide updates. The web-based system comprised of a C# back-end web service and an Angular single page application for the front-end. The system was used for administering data and managing passenger trips requests and vehicle assignment.

Results
Over several initial sprints, the mobile apps and system gained functionality and were successfully trialled during the 2019 Rugby World Cup. Following this we made further changes and enhancements in preparation for the system to be used for Tokyo 2020 (which took place summer 2021). The system is live and was used during Tokyo 2020 to help transport people in a covid-safe way. The key stakeholders were pleased with the system and it was a great improvement over their existing way of managing transportation.
